THE PRODUCTS AND MATERIALS WE USE
LABEL SUBSTRATES (FACE MATERIALS)
Lizard Labels Limited offer a wide range of substrates including: –
Standard papers – We use FSC certified paper
- Thermal Transfer
- Thermal Direct
Synthetic label materials provide excellent moisture and chemical resistance. The finishes are commonly glossy and provide an excellent surface for the ink to adhere to, thus giving bright and dense colours. Synthetic substrates include:
- Polypropylene or PP – fairly durable and thermally non-expansive
- Metallized PP – this has the same characteristics as PP; used for labels with special metallic visual effects
- Polyethylene or PE – a more stretchable/flexible substrate; used for compressible packaging
- Polyester or PET – maximum durability and persistence
- Clear – PP or PE
- Metallic
- Multi-layer constructions
In the process of label production planning, choosing the correct substrate-adhesive combination is of prime importance.
ADHESIVES
The adhesive, which is transferred onto the substrate, is chosen according to the surface of the label application, as well as according to environmental conditions in which labelling, storage and consumption of the product take place.
Choosing the wrong type of adhesive might cause the labels to roll up or even separate from the surface; on the other hand, it may not be possible to remove them from the surface when needed.
Adhesives fall into the following categories:
- Permanent – for standard adhesion to most surfaces
- Hi Tac – Non removable
- Extra permanent – used where strong adhesion is required and/or in cases of rough surfaces
- Peelable – used where easy removal of labels is required, that doesn’t leave traces of the adhesive
- Deep freeze – i.e. frozen food labels
- Marine Grade – watertight
- Special adhesives – for special labelling circumstances and surfaces, e.g., car tyre labels
A4 Laser Labels Limited offer a range of finishes to optimise your label design. These include the following: –
- Metallic inks
- Wide variety of varnishes, semi gloss, high gloss
- Hot foiling
- Tactile finishes
- Lamination including Part Lamination and Carbon Lamination
- Peel & Reveal and Peel and Read
- Block Out
Whatever your requirement, we will be versatile and flexible and do our utmost to accommodate any request.
BACKING PAPER/RELEASE LINERS
When considering the production and application phase of your labels, it is important to consider the backing with its silicone release coating. This does not influence your label design but it does influence the application.
GLASSINE BACKING MATERIALS
This backing material is uncoated and available in a variety of weights and available in transparent, white and honey for roll stock labels.
HIGH-DENSITY GLASSINE
High-Density Glassine Backings have a lower deviation in thickness and a higher density. This means that they perform better when die-cutting filmic face materials, compared to regular glassine or Kraft backings.
FILMIC BACKING MATERIALS
Polyester (PET) or polypropylene (PP) backing materials are clear and specially designed for use with transparent filmic face materials in applications requiring excellent clarity. Filmic backing provides a smooth adhesive layer for uniform contact with the face material and has good strength characteristics for high-speed (volume) production and demanding applications.
KRAFT BACKING MATERIALS
Kraft backings are coated on one side and are more rigid than either glassine or high-density glassine backings of the same weight. These backings are used in both sheet stock A3 and A4 applications because they provide a suitable backing that feeds smoothly into copier, inkjet and laser printers. This backing is also ideal when the application requires flat sheet conversion.
